CBT is an evidence-based treatment informed by NICE guidance. It is paramont that treatment is adapted in a manner which accommodates your needs.

Psychotherapy

I offer cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT). This psychological therapy emphasises on becoming more aware of and identifying your patterns of thoughts and/or behaviours which may be unhelpful, in order to then make changes that will add to your quality of life.

CBT focuses on difficulties which may be impacting you in the present, whereby identifying how your thoughts, feelings and behaviours are connected and interact. This then offers a foundation for change.

I specialise in delivering CBT for difficulties affecting mood and wellbeing:

  • Depression

  • Generalised anxiety

  • Health anxiety

  • Social anxiety

  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder

  • Post-traumatic stress disorder

  • Low self-esteem

  • Body dysmorphia

  • Panic disorder

  • Agoraphobia

  • Phobias

CBT is typically a short-term therapy, with 12-24 sessions per treatment episode. There are several characteristics to CBT which prime its effectiveness:

  • Goal-driven - there must be some idea of what you would like to get out from the sessions, which translate into change on a daily or weekly basis for you; becoming more noticable over the course of therapy.

  • Tasks between sessions - as concepts are discussed and techniques explored in sessions, there is a need for then practising change between appointments. As much is covered in sessions, there is an expectation to complete work that has been agreed in order to work towards your goals.

  • Collaborative - the purpose of therapy is to instil confidence in and empower you, therefore, your engagement is invaluable to each session.
